Derek Leonard, the founder and proprietor of ProABC, a nationwide provider of dental and medical practice solutions, graduated with a degree in Financial Accounting from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. His professional journey began with an internship at JCPenney during college, where he excelled in a company-wide contest,
earning top honors at district, regional, and national levels. This accomplishment led to a job offer from JCPenney, where he commenced his career as an Accounting Manager in Salt Lake City, Utah, before advancing to Senior Auditor in Orange County, California.
After gaining valuable experience, Leonard returned to his hometown of Metairie in the New Orleans area, joining Orthodontics Center of America (OCA). It was there that he honed his skills in consulting for healthcare practitioners, learning the intricacies of developing, marketing, and managing medical and dental practices. Despite OCA's
eventual financial downturn, Leonard found his passion in healthcare consulting and ventured to establish his own business, initially named American Business Consulting, now known as ProABC, in 2005. Today, ProABC collaborates with over 200 medical and
dental offices nationwide.
Their primary service involves partnering with doctors transitioning into business ownership, offering comprehensive assistance in all facets of practice management, from financial planning and leasing to staffing and marketing strategies. Leonard's
dedication even led him to acquire a real estate license to better facilitate finding optimal office spaces for clients. Furthermore, ProABC aids doctors in expanding their practices through Dental Services Organization (DSO) programs, facilitates permanent placement of associate doctors, and assists in dental practice transitions for retiring practitioners. Looking ahead, Leonard envisions ProABC evolving into practice owners itself, with doctors becoming employees of their owned practices, aiming to foster stronger business relationships and enhance practice success.
The advent of Covid-19 brought about profound changes globally, altering the way we conduct our affairs. In 2022, Derek forged a partnership with the VA aimed at providing crucial treatment for Veterans grappling with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and various other sleep disorders. Within a mere six months, Derek successfully identified and inaugurated an additional 60 treatment centers, demonstrating remarkable efficacy in enhancing the financial performance of each facility. Notably, one of these centers saw its profits surge by over a million dollars within the inaugural year alone. Subsequently, both the number of practices and their corresponding profits have skyrocketed, quadrupling in magnitude and continuing to expand steadily.
Later this year, Leonard is set to complete and release his debut book entitled "Startup 101: Ignite Your Practice, Discover a Proven Path to a Thriving Healthcare Practice with No Money, No Time, and No Experience." Additionally, he is strategizing to enhance his involvement in speaking engagements, emceeing, DJing, and initiating online course offerings. During his leisure time, Derek relishes moments spent with his family, traveling, and engaging in exercise.
